A new part of Nashville

Today was my first day as a volunteer tutor at the African Leadership refugee ministry.  I was excited about meeting all the kids and was secretly hoping there would be some from West Africa that I could speak French with.  I miss using that beautiful language every day.

As I pulled into the northwest Nashville apartment complex where the tutoring center is located, the rain started to pour.  I had written down the address and corresponding directions before I left, but upon arriving I realized that I had no clue which apartment building to head towards.  Driving in, I just kept seeing more and more identical brick buildings, labeled A-Z.  As I sat in my car, not wanting to drive twenty minutes back to Belmont just to get the apartment number, I started to regret my recent downgrade from the internet-browsing, google-maps navigating, full email servicing, way-too-expensive-for-a-college-student Blackberry World Edition wonderphone to my humble LG Chocolate with texting-only capabilities.  That little phone came through for me though, and one call later I was on my way, apartment number in hand.

This blog just got a makeover!

Dear Devoted Readers,
I'd like to invite you to visit my new blog, The Space Between.
A lot has happened in the last few weeks, and I felt it necessary to re-engineer my blog to reflect the changes in my life.  I've certainly enjoyed giving Ma vie, racontée a makeover!
New features include:
  • a navigation bar at the top of the page -- use this to jump between the Blog roll and other pages, such as my Purpose, Travels, Projects, Service, and Inspiration pages.
  • a search bar -- now you can type in a keyword to find posts I've written about your favorite topics.
  • a "share it" widget halfway down the page in the right-hand column -- click either icon to share any of your favorite posts on twitter or facebook.
  • a new format -- hopefully you'll find this template aesthetically pleasing and easy to read.
Some of the new pages are still under construction, as it is somewhat of a time-consuming task to create quality content.  I'll do my best to keep you updated as the site further develops. Meanwhile, I'd love to hear your feedback on what's working and what can be improved.
Thanks for reading,
Shirah Eden

Soothe the travel bug within

I realize that my blog must be very boring now for those of you that have been following me since Belgium -- or any other of my travels for that matter. With Russia in plain view, this should change very soon, and I hope to have many more stories for you.

But in the mean time, I have the perfect solution for all you adventure-craving travel blog followers.

Do you love to read posts about cultural mishaps, strange foreign men, daily life overseas, trying to fit in, and deep thoughts inspired by new experiences? Do you treasure learning to see the world from another's point of view? Do you enjoy eloquent comedic prose?

Then meet Anna, a bubbly young woman whose life experiences have given her the wisdom of someone twice her age.
